SETAA 2009 News Announcement

 

The Southeast Taiwanese Association of America (SETAA) holds its annual summer conference this year at the Ramada Orlando Celebration Resort & Convention Center on July 3rd through the 5th.  Hosted by the Tampa and Orlando Chapters of the TAA, the 31st SETAA conference will be an opportunity for Taiwanese Americans in the Southeast to discuss political and current events, network with their colleagues, and celebrate our Taiwanese heritage.

 

Since the China friendly Ma administration was elected, the hard earned democracy and freedom in Taiwan has been changed rapidly.  In light of the current global economy and Taiwanese politics, a number of selected keynote speakers will provide their view on politics, economics, human right and environmental issues.  These speakers include leaders from Taiwan and the US as well as second Generation Taiwanese Americans who possess leadership roles in their fields and embrace their Taiwanese tradition.

 

Additionally, SETAA 2009 will have a fun opening and closing ceremony, a golf tournament, an optional hot air balloon ride, and a “Taiwan Night” where the participants will share their talents for others to enjoy.  The Ramada Hotel is in proximity to Disney World and a free shuttle service to the theme park is provided.  Other destinations include Epcot Center, Animal Kingdom, Universal Studios, Sea World, and the Kennedy Space Center.

2009 美東南區夏令會邀請函

親愛的各地同鄉們：

佛羅里達州Tampa 和Orlando臺灣同鄉會隆重推出2009年美東南區夏令會。預定在七月三日至五日在佛州的”Ramada Orlando Celebration Resort & Convention Center” 舉辦。東南區夏令會三十年來一直是扮演著同鄉的年度敘舊和精神充電器。來自各地的鄉親們齊聚一堂，聆聽、討論、分享台美人最關心的台、美時事議題。

自從臺灣馬政府上台後，「馬上」翻臉。在中國黨「反獨促統」政策下，大幅親中、媚共。過去廿年臺灣本土政權所努力追求，辛苦建造的民主自由制度，不 到一年時間已幾乎被摧殘殆盡，臺灣人的權益汲汲可危。面對劇變的國際政、經情勢，夏令會籌備會擬將邀請臺灣、美國的菁英一起探討臺灣民主政治、經濟、兩岸 關係、司法與人權等議題。計劃中有前經建會主委，現臺灣智庫董事長陳博志教授；民進黨青年部主任趙天麟；中國問題專家邁阿密大學政治系金德芳教授 (June Teufel Dreyer)；以及電影”被出賣的臺灣”(Taiwan Betrayed)製作人刁毓能(Will Tiao)將應邀蒞臨夏令會一起來探討我們所關心的臺灣。此外臺美人第二代已相繼在美國社會成長茁壯，夏令會籌備會也將邀請年青世代來分享他們奮鬥過程， 這些不僅是老台美人的驕傲，也會是年青一代同儕的榜樣。

今年夏令會節目豐富，除了邀請來賓講演涵蓋政、經、人權、媒體、醫學等議題之外；七月三日下午將另有一場高爾夫球賽；籌備會也將有一個生動可期的開 幕、閉幕式。當然，同鄉們的熱情參與將會是最難忘的回憶。七月四日晚上的「臺灣之夜」就是給同鄉們一展身手的舞台。夏令會所在的Ramada Orlando Celebration Resort & Convention Center”緊鄰狄斯奈樂園，有免費shuttle可接送遊客到狄斯奈。周圍即為舉世聞名的 “Theme Parks”。如果鄉親們有興趣搭乘熱汽球鳥瞰Theme Parks，旅館前更有一熱汽球載客(Hot air balloon ride)的活動(費用自理)，我們竭誠邀請各地鄉親闔府來到旅遊聖地Orlando，作伙探討我們所關心的臺灣，並享受一個夏日假期。
